The piece
This waltz first appeared in Paris in 1860, published by Jacques Maho in a set of Quatre pièces pour piano under the name of Baroness Nathaniel de Rothschild. The manuscript in Chopin's own hand, given by the Rothschild family to the library of the Paris Conservatoire in 1901, made it possible to return the piece to him in the twentieth century. This version follows the 1860 page: a theme in A minor, an animato episode that climbs to the top of the keyboard, then the theme and the episode returning before a short ending.
The left hand plays the bass and then two chords in every bar: lean a little on the bass and keep the chords light, so that the waltz turns. In the right hand, the small notes before the beat are played quickly and lightly, without delaying the main note. In the animato episode, the arpeggio that climbs three octaves changes grouping on each beat, a triplet and then five notes: count it slowly before you take the tempo.
