Noctave
Portrait of George Frideric Handel, in moonlight

Composer

George Frideric Handel

1685–1759 · 1 piece in Noctave

Born in Halle in 1685, George Frideric Handel studied law before turning to music, worked in Hamburg and then in Italy, and settled in London in 1712, where he spent the rest of his life and became a British subject. There he wrote dozens of Italian operas, then oratorios in English, among them Messiah (1741), as well as the Water Music and the Music for the Royal Fireworks. He died in London in 1759.

The catalogue presents the Hallelujah chorus from Messiah in an easy version written for Noctave: the sopranos' melody in the right hand, the basses' line in the left, in the same rhythm. Start hands separately, counting the eighths, then play both hands together at a slow tempo before moving towards the Allegro.
